Fashion is Fabulous

Be Fabulous.   We all know good style is a must in any world - and yes even in the virtual, and especially among the class acts in the music industry - or should be!  That's right, Miley!  

A short teaser for a good friend/former boss - new author Frolic Mills.  I was one of the many staff reporters, working with him in recent years.  He asked me to help on a book project regarding the fashion industry, mainly his experience in the virtual (but also applicable to real life in major ways).  Anyway, kudos to Frolic Mills (founder/former owner/publisher of Best of SL Magazine, Miss Virtual World, etc.) on the release of his first book!

United Hearts 2013

Perhaps love can be sweeter the second time around, as can another look at a brilliant musician and composer, especially when you have excellent taste in life - music and art!   It takes a special person to be able to put together a gallery show of Leonard Cohen once, but to do it again and do it well, that is passion.   For her 2013 United Hearts show, Morgana Nagorski handed over the reign of interpretation to 21 artists, 13 of them returning from last year's show.

It began a year ago with the 2012 United Heart exhibition featuring 20 artists who were asked to interpret the lyrics of a Leonard Cohen song.   What song they selected was their own choice.

United Hearts allows for personal interpretation, as well as an understanding of how music inspires us; how music can be interpreted on canvas.  How often we watch music videos, where the words and lyrics rush past.  Here, you can contemplate on an aspect of a song.   And once again, Morgana has created a stunning show of image and words.  Cohen's music is streamed into the gallery.

Opening receptions were held Saturday evening and Sunday morning in Second Life. I attended the Sunday reception, where artists and guests mingled with each other, enjoying the surroundings. Morgana was as always the lovely curator, greeting visitors.

The exhibit (Gardenia Islands 105, 61, 2501) runs through April 2013.  The gallery is sponsored by LUMIPro Professional Lighting System at the recently launched Palais Orleans Gallery Complex, where you can visit Morgana's work as well.

And The Beat Goes On

May is winding down, and I had an opportunity to attend an amazing show with Blueron Clyburn.  He's one of the many musicians planning to attend the Chicago Jam from June 22 to 24.  Catch some of your favorite Second Life performers jamming for you in real life - and enjoy all the fun!    The event is organized and founded by SL's Anek Fuchs and Gina Stella.

She is an incredible talent, and joins the rank of so many top notch SL women singers like SweetLilly and AMForte (and others like Gina Stella not featured this time around).

Now back to the very blue Blueron Clyburn.  Blue (teal?) is his color as he adorns his lovely Merm-man fins.   He performed live yesterday at Two Moon Paradise's underwater venue.   It was my first time "underwater" at Two Moon, and my first time as a mermaid.  TPM is a great complex for live music and special events.

I invited Belinda Barnes to join me, and she readily was prepared, changing into something more appropriate for the event, looking lovely as always.   I slipped on my Purple Moon "mesh" mermaid gown that I purchased a couple of weeks ago and fitted it underwater as I listened to Blue.   (The thing about mesh is you are never truly nakey, just invisible, you gotta love that. No one noticed.)

All eyes were fixated on Blue at the piano.  Topless (with nothing but bubbles), he didn't miss a beat.  And his fins kept rhythm, I imagine.

Blue is wonderful at interpreting songs his way, and he's been around quite awhile as a performer in Second Life, and much longer in real life.  From New York to New Orleans, and back and then some.

Catch him finless in Chicago soon.   Tell him hi from Soni, because I will be in his neck of the woods, outside New York while he entertains ya'll in my home state.  Go figure!

Metos Beaumont at Muddy's

Muddy's is one of those places that you can roll around and get dirty - but actually it is all clean fun.  It's just that you can relax and enjoy some great American music, and who better than a French guy Metos Beaumont to show us how it is done.  Okay, it is not all USA music - he's got some of the Brits in there, and some others as well.  He has a wide variety of music in his collection, so I am teasing the man.  I popped in to catch Metos' his first night at Muddy's.  He's moved recently to the USA, and so he's on my time zone, and I can hear his dj sets now.   It was the middle of the week, but Metos kept everyone happy - and dancin'

and he even threw in some incredible mashups of his own.

BOSL Features Duran Duran in its August Issue

I have been so busy lately, writing writing writing, everything but this BLOG.   I'm back after a short break with the RL music scene as it intersects with SL.   So.....

Best of SL Magazine's August Issue features the virtual story behind Duran Duran.  The article highlights the band's entrance into Second Life and the creation of the Duran Duran Universe.    The vision was very much that of DD's co-founder Nick Rhodes, who has been assisted by Community Manager Chrissy Welinder in-world.  I had the wonderful opportunity to interview both Nick and Chrissy.  Rumor has it that some of the members will be popping in this weekend for a bit of fun.  Stay tuned for more information.  Better yet, hop over to DDU.    Pick up the latest BOSL at a nearby kiosk in SL.   The issue is posted online too - http://www.thebosl.com/august-issue

Don't Hate Mondays!

You can bet across the grid there's always live music - from the Alabama beaches to the NYC Skyscapers.  Monday night was a great night for it.   My night started at Bama Breeze, a Jimmy Buffett inspired beach venue, that features live music a couple times a week.   Trasc McCallen (in the gray tshirt) is the owner, and long-time Second Life resident.   Country musician Don Galager performed a great show, tossing in a few Buffett classics.   He'll be back at the Breeze this Friday.

Happy Birthday - AJ, Troy and Powers

On the tail of the release of The Follow's new album, Building Machines to Reach The Stars, the band threw a 2 year anniversary party.  Hard to believe it has been two years, and the three - AJ Darkwatch, Troy Shoreland and Powers Avon - have been going strong.  

 In the second hour of their show, The Follow kicked off their second hour with an incredible rendition of Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here.   I interviewed the band members for the June issue of Best of SL Magazine, so you can reference that story on the BOSL web site.

The Second Life music bash also honored Anj Gustafson, who preceded The Follow, for achieving more than 1,000 members in his fan base.  He chilled, dancing, with Boom Pony Music Club Owner Kiran Sporg, after his set.  Anj is an awesome musician, and it is likely he will remain on the grid a long time, and building his fan base.

AcousticEnergy Inducted into the SE Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame

Surprise!!!  Sher Salmson of SpiritFire Entertainment honored AcousticEnergy Nitely for reaching a 1,000 member fan base.  He was inducted into the SE Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame at Dragon Moon, owned by Sher, his manager.  The event filled the sim during the two hour event, and AE swooned his fans with his magical voice.  A special video was made by SE's Doris Fereszk in honor of AE with some of his closest friends, musicians, and associates "singing" his praises (so to speak) and then he was awarded a statue to mark this occasion.

Fans and good friends gathered to celebrate with AcousticEnergy.  Sher went all out in an elegant formal gown.
