New Stream for Slow Bake

Dear Listeners,

You know how it goes - the Stones' tune "You can't always get what you want...." Honestly, I even have reservations about whether you can get what you need, even trying hard. There's always a condition.  Anyways, there is a point to this post.

Thanks for the memories!  You can anticipate new ones from Slow Bake, and hopefully SL LIve Radio.  So please let me explain.

I have learned that you cannot do everything, and if you try, something will likely flounder.
I spent the week thinking over a lot of things, about the direction of Slow Bake, and whether I might be interested in buying SL Live Radio.   I was, and it breaks my heart not to do so.   Esme Capelo and Thorn Andel have created an amazing radio station, professional sounding and they have broadcast many amazing remotes.  They built a brand that represents quality radio.  To do all that, it takes a lot of creativity and time, and even money.  At this point in my life, and having had a long radio career in RL (and still working full-time in RL as well), I cannot personally invest my life into SL Live Radio.   Trust me, it tears me up.  Like many SLers, I am feeling the pangs of getting older, and having to be selective with my time choices.   I will be jealous of the next owner, and even if SL Live Radio continues as it is, I would be jealous that I missed this opportunity.   I am so glad that I had a glorious four years with Esme and Thorn, and all those who I met through them!  I will never regret their friendship and trust in my show.

Slow Bake will continue...

I have enjoyed the past four years working with SL Live Radio, still going strong by the way.
I am here today to tell you that there will be some changes soon to Slow Bake.  I will redirect you to my personal stream for my radio show within the next two weeks, and I will be looking for new ways to promote SL music at least in time for my anniversary edition, April 10th - when it all began 8 years ago in 2010, first on BOSL Radio and then 4 years later on August 10, 2014 - that's when I started a long run with SL Live Radio, who graciously took up my program on its stream (thanks Esme and Thorn). I reiterate, I appreciate their hosting of Slow Bake.  I am just a humble deejay who is happy with the music scene in-world.

Memories....

I have many fond memories of live music performances in SL, and remember getting to know some of the artists when I co-owned the club Chicago SL years ago.   That was my start!   Chicago was one of the first to stream musicians live, but then it got so complicated, and everybody wanted a piece of the action.  I keep trying to go smaller, lol, and always get caught in the spotlight.   Let's keep it on the music!   I am just an ex dj, who loves introducing people to talented artists and good music!

As my listeners know, my focus is on SL musicians and singers who play inside Second Life.  I would like to expand that to other virtual worlds, but honestly as far as my virtual travels have indicated as of late,  SL is still the place for live music across the meta universe.   Prove me wrong, if you don't think so.  I am always on the look out for new music and artists!

Long live 'live music' and SL Live Radio.

Hugs to Esme, Thorn, and all my loyal listeners - and Mad Pea for providing us virtual land to stream live from our studio there!

Happy 2018 from Slow Bake!

Happy New Year!!!

Glad to be back for Sunday's radio show!   I have a few pics from our last show for 2017 with Esme and Thorn, the founders of SL Live Radio, proud sponsor of Slow Bake, a two-hour Sunday feature that breaks away from the regular format to pay tribute to SL musicians and singers.  And there's plenty of SL music to keep us busy all year long!

I have amassed quite a large song collection of in-world favorites, mostly indie artists who rely on local support in their respective communities and the virtual live music community of Second Life.

Some artists have moved on to other projects, but many return every now and then.  Of course, many others remain loyal to their SL audiences.  The goal of the radio show is to expose these bands beyond the confines of SL, and so that you can listen to their tunes anywhere, not just within SL and not only when they are scheduled to play.   Just like a radio station, you cannot download the songs from Slow Bake, but we help you find their music so you can purchase it and we try to direct you to their concerts in world and wherever they play IRL, maybe even your hometown.

I am hoping 2018 will allow me to expand our music library, listener base, and programming.  Belinda has been my longtime sidekick and we hope to keep the Slow Bake tradition alive and well for virtual music lovers everywhere.

Based now in the Bay Area, I am closer than ever to the mother ship, and remain committed to strengthening the music scene!

Recently I found this article about Second Life, published last month (Dec. 2017),  https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2017/12/second-life-leslie-jamison/544149/

Stay tuned for Slow Bake, (most) Sundays noon to 2pm PST/SLT, live streaming from SL Live Radio, in-world at Mad Pea's Mad City!   http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/MadPea%20Mad%20City/114/198/32

Winter Days, Spring Thoughts

Only in the Virtual!   I remember those winter days in the Midwest.   Back home, they just had an ice storm.   So here I am in Sunny Cali, for the most part, but still reminiscing about those snowy days in the real, and how I came into Second Life to escape the cold.  That of course worked until the ice storm kicked off the power.

In this pic, I am rewinding and digging those lazy days, a backpack of music, kicking back, listening to SL's best.  During Slow Bake, I get to play a variety of tunes from our very own SL music library - singers and musicians who give their all to us at some very wonderful venues where we get to hang out with our friends, and then make new friends.

Being my 10th year in SL, I have heard many talented artists, and been fortunate enough to have collected music along the way before I even thought about hosting/DJing a show.

Come hang out with the Slow Bake team and relive that music again on Sundays for two hours beginning noon PST/SLT!    If you like what you hear at the venues, we've collected the best from those artists, their albums and live recordings, and rolled them up into one special show for you!

Slow Bake!

Thanks for listening!

Hearing Thanksgiving Around The Corner

Happy and Thankful for Second Life music and listeners!

Thankful for all of you!  Listeners and lovers of SL Music!

Thankful for my longtime partner & hostess Belinda, always at my side, tuned it and turned on to Slow Bake!  Guiding my show and the friendliest gal I know!   Always warm greetings from Bel to anyone who drops into the show.

Bel, Thorn, and Esme

Thanks to Esme and Thorn for making this radio show possible - SLOW Bake is streamed from SL Live Radio, and we are stationed in Mad City (part of Mad Pea Productions).  Love you both!

Kara, thanks for being our number one listener!   Love ya!   Happy thanksgiving!

Josie, visit more!  It was great seeing and hearing you live on Slow Bake last Sunday.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone from a nation that somehow gets past all the turkeys that come our way!   Let's make Second Life great again!   It's the people, baby, that make us great!  The diversity that exists across the globe that is reflected in Second Life is what I love, and that is reflected in our virtual collective of musicians and singers, here to unite us through the passion that resonates from their performances.

Join us!  Thorn, Esme, and friends at Mad City!

Good Friends, Balloons, and Second Life

Friends are a special gift no matter the world in which you live - and Second Life is no exception!

Thanks Belinda for capturing this moment in Second Life!  I think everyone of us took our own snapshots, and compared notes.  One for the SLOW BAKE Photo Album!

HAPPY HAPPY 9th, JOSIE!

Josie Anderton's 9th today!  So where's the Rez Day party, Josie!  She certainly deserves a super-sized celebration.  Many of us familiar with the SL music scene know Josie - she is a wonderful performer, great with the audience, and just a fun overall entertainer.  She adds volumes of her own personality into her covers, and her talent, charm and wit disarm you - so much so you gotta love being at her shows!  Check your SL Calendar of Live Music Events to hear this lovely woman in person!  (or stayed tuned during Slow Bake to her our Josie Anderton song collection)

Second Life's 13th Anniversary Begins!

How time files!  I am not quite the teenager;  I will be 10 years old soon.  Yet, SL has been a major part of my life since I arrived in 2006.   I have dear friends here, and much of my RL work springs from here.   I have experimented with building, fashion, machinima, storytelling and journalism as well as so many forms of creativity in SL.   I have hosted a radio show for more than 6 years in Second Life.

The official SL 13B celebration begins NOON SLT today!  Sunday, June 19th!   The actual birthday is this Thursday.  The details can be found here:  http://www.slcommunitycelebration.info/

This Sunday, I will be playing an unofficial tribute show to SL musicians who have shared their talent with us, both long-timers and newcomers.   It's another historic edition of SLOW Bake on SL Live Radio this Sunday.

Also, Happy Father's Day to real and SL Dads!   To me, it's all real!

Join me and hostess Belinda Barnes for Slow Bake as we celebrate SL's birthday, dad's day, and being one big happy SL family!

Fab Art and Saintly Sounds at The Edge

Get your Bailywick on at The Edge Gallery!

Just got into town few days ago, and was wondering what I was going to write about for this blog.  Actually went on the air (Slow Bake for SL Live radio, Sundays noon) without that inspiration.  Wanted to kick back, play my beats, and connect to listeners.  Thought about blogging about St. Patty's Day since I am mostly all Irish, and love green, but it seemed so cliche (maybe later this week).

Then my good friend Ramsa Luv (suit!) invited me to the opening of The Edge Gallery at Bailywick after my radio show.  And the we invited Esme Capelo (co-owner of SL Live radio with Thorn Andel).   Here we were at The Edge's opening to gaze upon the creative art works (as you can tell from the 'pics' of the pics).

My ears immediately focused on the singer, the saintly voice of Saintess Larnia, an extremely talented UK performer.  Excellent choice for the event!  Checked her profile - I mean she has been performing on SL for more than 7 years, so how did I miss her!?

She sings rock and pop covers (from Coldplay, Florence and The Machine, Staind, to Bon Jovi to so much more, name it!) extraordinary well!   She has that sultry, gutsy passion, and can ease to those high notes without missing a beat or straining a vocal cord or guitar chord.  Then, there are her originals!  That's where you really get to feel her talent.

So I went to her web site - http://www.saintesslarnia.com/ - and she had 2 tunes (Pure; Nothing Sweet) for purchase;  both were originals that sounded professionally recorded and nicely processed.

Long story short, I will adding those two songs (and hopefully more) on my radio show.   During her show, she announced she will adding more as well to her web site.   She is definitely a fantastic addition to my music collection!

Gotta love SL, the talent never ceases to amaze me!

Check her blog for where she plays next!

See you around the music scene!    :) Soni

Slow Bake - Six Years Strong, What are You Missing!

SLOW BAKE - GOING 6 Years Strong (well nearly!).    April 2011 is when it started for me.   So I have been trying to think of how to celebrate - any ideas on how to particularly honor our SL musicians?  I welcome your feedback.

If you are new to SLOW BAKE - Find out what all the buzz is about.   Music from your fav SL musicians, and your favorite hosts Sonicity and sidekick Belinda!   I gathered some pics from our fun times over the years.  Thank you to all the musicians and listeners who have supported us!   Really thanks!  I love you.  I do (and so does Belinda!)

Sundays, Noon to 2PM SLT, sponsored by SL Live Radio.
