Country Road, Take Me Home

Home is where the heart is.   Wally's White Horse Tavern in Whispers Magic is one of those venues with a lot of heart.  Good people, good atmosphere, and talented singers.  I got all gussied up in my country duds for some live music.  The place was packed, yet still friendly and quaint.   The tavern itself is interesting, from the moment you walk in the door

Home is where the heart is.   Wally's White Horse Tavern in Whispers Magic is one of those venues with a lot of heart.  Good people, good atmosphere, and talented singers.  I got all gussied up in my country duds for some live music.  The place was packed, yet still friendly and quaint.   The tavern itself is interesting, from the moment you walk in the door.

I heard his name around the grid, but this was the first time I heard HammerFla Magic.  He's been in SL for four years.  Hammer has an amazing vocal richness, kinda Marty Robbins like at times.  He knows how to sing a country ballad, but he is certainly not limited to any particular style of music.   I was readily impressed, and so was Belinda Barnes, who hung out with me for the night.

Hammer was followed by the sweet sounding Katarina Malaspina.

Kat is also versatile in her choice of tunes.  I especially think she does a great Lorrie Morgan.   She followed the Morgan tune with Alanis Morrisette's classic Black Velvet, and a bit later, Leann Rimes' You Light Up My Life (originally by Debbie Boone).  Add to that, three from Patsy Cline, Dolly's I Will Always Love you and finishing up with Chesney's Had Me From Hello! - and so many between.

Both singers and staff were very personable and had a great rapport with the audience.

Hope you can drop by some time to Wally's.

Just a Tuesday night in Second Life, where else could find wonderful entertainment on a week night.

Phi at Flashmans

Phideaux Mayo (editor of Retropolitan Magazine) heated up Flashmans tonight at Esoterica. She sang a variety of classics, ballads, and contemporary female artists. In her first half hour, for example, she went from Mary Chapin Carpenter to Alison Krauss to Petula Clark to composer Jason Robert Brown (one of her favorites). Singer Nina Bean played hostess. Nina is a regular performer at Flashmans as well, along with Phi. Nina danced a bit with birthday boy Niv Bing.

Happy 5th Rez Day to Niv!  Everyone is getting older, even Flashmans. It's been around for five years, and even Phi turned 5 a few weeks earlier this month.  Time flies in Second Life.

BTW - Phi Mayo sings every Saturday at Martini's at the Cove, 6PM SLT.

The Olympics at the DDU

The Olympics at the Duran Duran Universe, really! Why not? Duran Duran is performing as part of the Olympics - BT London Live Opening Ceremony Concert at Hyde Park Friday, July 27th. So DDU Machinimatographer JJccc Coronet filmed some "sports clips" from inside the mad mad world of Second Life to be presented as part of the video mix during the concert. The call for Duranees to come out only said - wear some kind of sports clothes. It was sort of fantasy and virtual world meets The Olympics. Jj's machinima captures it all. I am sure he will release a machinima soon - he's a madman when it comes to producing them! At one point, Bel got into a boxing match with the filmmaker! Not sure who won, but Bel ended up with a shiner!  [UPDATE:  MACHINIMA HERE - Bel makes her first appearance at 6:30, and then again around 7:53 for her boxing match, and runs about 90 seconds off and on, building in intensity.]

It was great fun, organized by DDU Community Manager Chrissy Welinder. Hope you had an opportunity to come out to DDU for the shooting early Saturday morning, and the later party in the afternoon.

Rainy Days and Wednesdays

Well it didn't rain!   But we all had umbrellas!  Blair Bond umbrellas Some brought our own!  It was Wednesday July 11th and an ordinary day in Second Life like most others!  Then, Bel and I went to the GSpot Live music venue in Windy to catch bluesy/jazzy pop musician/singer Blair Bond.  The perfect way to lift your spirits - great tunes and a lively good time!  I play some of Blair's music (and waiting for more) on my Saturday show, Slow Bake, for BOSL Radio.

I have to say I really like the layout of the venue, being the third time I heard a live performer here. Plenty of room, even when a lot of fans come out to listen. I have a few photos here to share of Blair and some from his "umbrella song."

His branded umbrella is great for those rainy days in Second Life - or maybe when you want shade from the hot sun! I know in Chicago, my hometown, it's been extremely hot. If I could only transport Blair's umbrella to the not so Windy City (as of late). Anyway, as the story goes, Blair worked the audience, and was as amazing as always! So come out to the GSpot - and come out for a Blair Bond show! - and get a really cool umbrella! :) Soni

Happy 4th of July!

Happy Independence Day, USA!   Special thanks to Rob, owner of Club RoCa, for celebrating with live music this 4th of July!   Here's some pics from the second half - but truly a great line-up all day!

Needless to say, but I will (LOL), I had a great time! especially since I lived in an area of the USA that had burn bans - so no fireworks!!!!   So I went to the virtual world for my celebration!
I wish I caught the earlier acts, but once I got to Club RoCa, I couldn't leave.  Did I say - great line-up!  This was the first time that I heard DennyMac!   He had an incredible set, starting off with a Jason Mraz tune, and even hitting those high notes.   Great mix - and you gotta love his Pizza tune!    Request it next time!
Finishing off the night was Samm Qendra, from Stevie Nicks to Moody Blues to Celine Dion to Adele to a plethora of songs that showed off her vocal range.   I am positive she could do the Star Spangled Banner justice!

With that I wish you and yours, Freedom!  wherever you live!

Kickin' Summer into Gear

It's summer, and I have some catching up to do! I dropped in a few places to see what's shakin' - and the music scene is always lively on the grid. I just got back from hangin' in New England and the Big NYC (and not talking about Lingual's The Roof - but that was one of my first stops when coming back in town).

So here's the music scene in pics.  Last night, I dropped into The Roof's pre-4th of July party - and enjoyed the usual exceptional line-up served up by Ling.   AMFORTE Clarity was stunningly beautiful as usual, with vocal cords that will melt your soul.  It was great to see Strum Diesel, who is working on a new music project - so glad to hear that and looking forward to it!   Lazarus Doghouse, folksy talented musician/storyteller, dropped in to listen and mingle.

Porter Paquot followed AMFORTE, and was her usual amazing self and so cute in her red gown with sparklers!

Also, I had the pleasure to catch rockin' Wayne Davis (WayneDavisRocks) at Sherie's Gaslight - that was my first time hearing him -

and he definitely knows his stuff, a great musician who's been around in RL and SL.

Then, tonight I listened to the fab voice of Gina Stella, while saying hello to Blueron Clyburn, who just finished his set, at TwoMoon Paradise's Mer Garden. He's back home on the East Coast, after performing at this year's Chicago jam, organized by Anek Fuchs and Gina Stella.

Gina looked lovely as mermaid, and so did Blue (see past blog). Sher is back managing Gina. TerryLynn was in the audience. And the lovely TMP Owner Shiran Sabra was on hand, lovely as ever, greeting all.

That's just a quick look around, now that I am back in SL from my RL adventure.  I caught The Follow's Powers Avon at The Roof - his shirt says it all about how busy the band has been and is!

Catch you on the grid and on BOSL radio for some SL jams, hot off the grid, in a show I call Slow Bake, featuring SL musicians, Saturdays, 11am SLT. (Pic below, Deep House Island radio remote)
