Superbowl Sunday - Looking forward to Half-Time

Superbowl Sunday 52 at Soni's House!   I'll be watching - what about you?! I am looking forward to a Justin Timberlake win during the halftime show!

New Stream for Slow Bake

Dear Listeners,

You know how it goes - the Stones' tune "You can't always get what you want...." Honestly, I even have reservations about whether you can get what you need, even trying hard. There's always a condition.  Anyways, there is a point to this post.

Thanks for the memories!  You can anticipate new ones from Slow Bake, and hopefully SL LIve Radio.  So please let me explain.

I have learned that you cannot do everything, and if you try, something will likely flounder.
I spent the week thinking over a lot of things, about the direction of Slow Bake, and whether I might be interested in buying SL Live Radio.   I was, and it breaks my heart not to do so.   Esme Capelo and Thorn Andel have created an amazing radio station, professional sounding and they have broadcast many amazing remotes.  They built a brand that represents quality radio.  To do all that, it takes a lot of creativity and time, and even money.  At this point in my life, and having had a long radio career in RL (and still working full-time in RL as well), I cannot personally invest my life into SL Live Radio.   Trust me, it tears me up.  Like many SLers, I am feeling the pangs of getting older, and having to be selective with my time choices.   I will be jealous of the next owner, and even if SL Live Radio continues as it is, I would be jealous that I missed this opportunity.   I am so glad that I had a glorious four years with Esme and Thorn, and all those who I met through them!  I will never regret their friendship and trust in my show.

Slow Bake will continue...

I have enjoyed the past four years working with SL Live Radio, still going strong by the way.
I am here today to tell you that there will be some changes soon to Slow Bake.  I will redirect you to my personal stream for my radio show within the next two weeks, and I will be looking for new ways to promote SL music at least in time for my anniversary edition, April 10th - when it all began 8 years ago in 2010, first on BOSL Radio and then 4 years later on August 10, 2014 - that's when I started a long run with SL Live Radio, who graciously took up my program on its stream (thanks Esme and Thorn). I reiterate, I appreciate their hosting of Slow Bake.  I am just a humble deejay who is happy with the music scene in-world.

Memories....

I have many fond memories of live music performances in SL, and remember getting to know some of the artists when I co-owned the club Chicago SL years ago.   That was my start!   Chicago was one of the first to stream musicians live, but then it got so complicated, and everybody wanted a piece of the action.  I keep trying to go smaller, lol, and always get caught in the spotlight.   Let's keep it on the music!   I am just an ex dj, who loves introducing people to talented artists and good music!

As my listeners know, my focus is on SL musicians and singers who play inside Second Life.  I would like to expand that to other virtual worlds, but honestly as far as my virtual travels have indicated as of late,  SL is still the place for live music across the meta universe.   Prove me wrong, if you don't think so.  I am always on the look out for new music and artists!

Long live 'live music' and SL Live Radio.

Hugs to Esme, Thorn, and all my loyal listeners - and Mad Pea for providing us virtual land to stream live from our studio there!

Mid-Winter Blues in Radioland!

Just one of those days.   Feeling blue in SL.  Blinds open in RL.  Beautiful day but it is very chilly to really enjoy.   Nice and cozy in Second Life, but I cannot seem to get it together today to do a show for you all!    So my advice is - go see one of the many SL live shows today.  Lots of wonderful talent on the grid performing live every Sunday.   Please tip well to support the SL music scene.    Maybe I will just Slow Bake some cookies....

A Frisky Sunday in Second Life, Presenting AMFORTE and Many Others!

Fairly quiet today at Mad City so I did my rounds to check out the live music scene, especially when I knew AMFORTE would be performing today, first at the Frisky Beaver at noon, and later at the Jagged Edge in Sunset Cove, 6pm.    http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Sunset%20Cove/191/182/22

In between, and before and after, many musicians were scheduled to perform!

No reason to sit alone on Sundays, when SL brings the jam to you - online via SL Live Radio's stream (featuring SL musicians during the specialty show 'Slow Bake' hosted by yours truly).

Hope to see you at one of our live broadcasts!   Catch you later!

Always Sunny in SL

Over the holidays, during my vacation, I spent a lot of time with my family watching "Always Sunny in Philadelphia..."   It's just a blast to see how that cast can get into such mischief, and in Second Life, daily life is fairly normal comparatively.   So if you love talented musicians, good coversation, and just hanging out and listening to indie tunes, and even learning a bit about those artists and where they are playing next, then Slow Bake, a courtesy of SL Live Radio, which streams us weekly, then turn us on!   Catch Slow Bake live Sundays, noon to 2PM SLT (PST).   As I said, no worries, we are as real as it gets for another world!   And if you want it to be, it can also be - always SUNNY!

Here's the details for your listening pleasure.

Stay tuned for Slow Bake, (most) Sundays noon to 2pm PST/SLT, live streaming from SL Live Radio, in-world at Mad Pea's Mad City!   http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/MadPea%20Mad%20City/114/198/32

Happy 2018 from Slow Bake!

Happy New Year!!!

Glad to be back for Sunday's radio show!   I have a few pics from our last show for 2017 with Esme and Thorn, the founders of SL Live Radio, proud sponsor of Slow Bake, a two-hour Sunday feature that breaks away from the regular format to pay tribute to SL musicians and singers.  And there's plenty of SL music to keep us busy all year long!

I have amassed quite a large song collection of in-world favorites, mostly indie artists who rely on local support in their respective communities and the virtual live music community of Second Life.

Some artists have moved on to other projects, but many return every now and then.  Of course, many others remain loyal to their SL audiences.  The goal of the radio show is to expose these bands beyond the confines of SL, and so that you can listen to their tunes anywhere, not just within SL and not only when they are scheduled to play.   Just like a radio station, you cannot download the songs from Slow Bake, but we help you find their music so you can purchase it and we try to direct you to their concerts in world and wherever they play IRL, maybe even your hometown.

I am hoping 2018 will allow me to expand our music library, listener base, and programming.  Belinda has been my longtime sidekick and we hope to keep the Slow Bake tradition alive and well for virtual music lovers everywhere.

Based now in the Bay Area, I am closer than ever to the mother ship, and remain committed to strengthening the music scene!

Recently I found this article about Second Life, published last month (Dec. 2017),  https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2017/12/second-life-leslie-jamison/544149/

Books and Beats - Reflecting on the SL Scene

Sometimes it is difficult to keep up with my Second Life because of my annoying real life.  I am sure you know what I mean, if you have invested any quality of time in-world.  There are some things that run concurrently through both worlds for me - books and beats!   I have written and read far less since I moved West, but what has kept me sane has been music!   Even when I have little time for anything else in SL, I hangout at a virtual venue and listen to the amazing SL talent!

So here I am again, this week, getting ready from the little studio behind my beach condo on Book Island, listening to some cool jazz streaming through the villa.    In a few minutes, I will be hosting my radio show once again  - a mix of talent from all over the world broadcast through the stream of SL Live Radio!  See how to listen at the end of this blog!   Hope you can join me.  By the way, at the same time as my show, book island has some cool gatherings to inspire writers!    I would be there if I could, but it's nearly showtime.

Eclipse Fever on Slow Bake

Sonicity at SL Live Radio's station located in Mad Pea!  "I am not afraid of no eclipse."
Back with my show in time to feature music on the theme of Monday's solar eclipse!
I have been looking for songs that align themselves along this line, from the mysteries of the moon. Mother Nature, and everything in between.  Some songs that come to mind - Gina Stella's 'Under the Same Moon,' Harry Frychester's cover of 'Moondance," and The Follow's 'Love Eclipses,' just as a start.

So let's have a solar eclipse party in-world Sunday at noon, until 2pm SLT, mostly featuring SL musicians, singers, and a few extra like the amazing Jenny Johnson, who actually wrote a song "Solar Eclipse" and released a EP dedicated to the town of Makanda, right there at the epicenter of it all, and it boasts that viewing will be the longest in their small town in IL.

I will also be playing many of the regular favorites from SL artists as well, who sing their hearts out on a nearly daily basis night and day, regardless of what is going on outside in the so called real world.

Summer Travels, Real and Virtual, Let the Music Play On

Summertime fun in the virtual sound lab!

Hiya again.  I'm ready to roll again in Second Life.   It's been awhile, but all good things must come to an end - or must they?    Here's my latest travels this summer - inner and outer worlds.     I had some good times this past month, from California to Illinois to NYC and to Arizona, and then back to the Bay Area.  I actually was on the studio set of Good Morning America, waving in the audience. The studio is located in Times Square.
Setting up for a performance - yeah cool!
I missed my show, and my SL friends, but upon returning, I have made some Sansar friends.  I have my toe in the creative sands of Sansar, just attempting to wade deep enough so I stay afloat.    I have been thinking alot of what I want to create there, and definitely I want to establish a live music presence in both SL and Sansar, and perhaps every VW, right?

I am also back to writing again about VR and VWs, mostly academic, but I plan to return to my old journalistic musings, reporting on what's trendings related to virtual culture.

I went back to my Sound Lab project (pics above) to inspire me, and I will soon be back streaming regularly.    I want to freshen up my sounds, updating my playlist with any new releases.

Other than that, life is good!   How about you?     You will hear from me soon enough!  Check in next week, and I will let you know what's up.

Back From Family Business!

Do you remember that song 'Take the Long Way Home' by Supertramp.    Wow it just came to mind.  So that is what I did!    I probably could have returned home and to SL sooner, but I decided to smell every flower on the way back!    Sorry, but I did miss listening to SL music.

Today, every song I played sounded better.  I guess I needed a long break!

So here's my story for being gone so long.  I went back to Illinois to watch my oldest daughter graduate from college , and she also released her latest album a month prior.    Her latest album has to do with the town of Makanda, IL, also the site of the forthcoming solar eclipse.   It is the best viewing site, and she will be performing on location!   Anyway, here's a link, https://therealjennyjohnson.com

If you are a regular of Slow Bake (Sundays, noon to 2PM SLT), you likely know I play SL musicians, with one exception, I will play my kid's music!    Its Americana, and much of her music fits within the sound of the show.   Plus she is an indie musician, just like everybody else I typically play during my show!

Well long story short, I am back.   See you again next SundayI am going to download her latest tracks and sprinkle them through next Sunday's show - along with the regulars of Second Life who play their hearts out and make the live music scene vibrant!     I have tried to get her to be part of SL, and she agrees there are talented singers and musicians here.   It's just too weird for her.  LOL.

Maybe one day!   For now, I can play her music among our SL mix, and justify that I am playing talented indie artists who generously give of their talent and time in-world, for many of us would not have the opportunity to enjoy such talent in RL.     Thanks to the SL music scene and all that goes into it for making this possible.

Today, Belinda joined me for my return at the transmitter town on top of our SL Live Radio studio in Mad City.    Along with her, our friend Ramos and the GM of Meshworks Samantha Ohrberg (a.k.a. Baby Doll) spent the day with us!

Wonder Woman make a special appearance as well.  Next time, I hope to see  you there for Slow Bake.

Meanwhile, listen to SL Live Radio anytime on their stream.

It Starts Again!

Renewal!  Shake off the Winter Blues!   Spring is Monday.  Today's theme is Be Happy as we welcome baby birds, blue skies, and butterflies into our world again!

Slow Bake Hostess 'Belinda'

Harry Frychester, Effinjay, Josie Anderton, James Olmos (AE), TerryLynn Melody, SaraMarie Philly, Strum Diesel, and so many more.  Finding the 'happy' in all these SL musicians and many others too numerous to mention.  If you listen weekly, you know, I have collected quite a few songs, and now I am sorting them out via happy themes (well it's worth a spring try)!   See you on the happy side of the rainbow!

Soni's back at Mad City in the SL Live Radio headquarters, broadcasting globally across the virtual horizon, the music of your favorite singers and bands on Slow Bake!

Slow Bake airs every (nearly) Sunday, noon to 2PM SLT, with my host Belinda Barnes and good friend entertainment blogger Kara Trapdoor.

Kara, Soni & Bel, Mad City Bus Stop!

Listen in a multitude of ways!

I really need to add some Spring color into my wardrobe!
