Big Talent at The Big Apple!

Think of it - high above New York City!  New York, New York.   They say if you make it in the Big Apple, you can make it anywhere!  Some seasoned talent made their way onto The Roof on Wednesday night, March 28th.   I wish I could share you the sweet and sassy sounds that vibrated through the night air, but you will just have to listen carefully - imaginatively as you enjoy the photos.  Maybe you were there, then you know what I mean.    If not, be there next time!

Blu Ducrott (see top photos) made his way to the stage first.

PT Beardmore followed (musician Dragonfly provided comic relief) and then Lizaday Solo!

Lingual Marcus' has quite an impressive photo art collection of performers in his gallery these days, below the dance floor.

The Choo Choo Chicks Live at VWBPE

The Choo Choo Chicks, what has been described as "a sassy, sizzling jazz and blues group" performed live from Chattanooga, Tennessee at the Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education Conference.   It was an amazing dance party, just before the Machinima Exposition, just one of the many events of the international conference that brought thousands together to share in virtual learning and creativity - and incredible fun.   Catch the Choo Choos across the grid. They were among the performers at the International Women's Day Concert on March 4th at Minerva in Second Life.

Check them out on YouTube!

U2 - The Virtual Vertigo Tour in Second LIfe

Deja vu - twice over.  Bono took to the open air stage at Cocteau.  It was a re-creation of the 2005 U2 Vertigo Tour in Chicago.  That show, now historical, had been caught on tape back then, and actually is a compilation of two Chicago concerts from that same tour.  That concert was recorded again inside Second Life on Sunday February 19th.  Kagnar Beck was instrumental to the U2 performance, and this in-world event was one of the many shows that he manages as part of his virtual tour series.   Watch the SL capture on U2!

Behind the Taping
On this particular Sunday in Second Life, the audience enjoyed a virtual rendition of the Vertigo Tour, complete with the original elements of the live soundtrack - Bono's interaction with the crowd, special dedications (like on the song "Original of the Spices") and the timeless music of the era, all organized superbly to give you the sense of being there in the Windy City at that memorable event, seven years ago.

This moment could only be relived properly at Darkside Rawkerz Club, the venue host for this virtual extravaganza. U2 tribute band members were Kagnar on vocals as Bono -

Larry Muller Jr. (TiajaMaja Shan) on drums, Jamesy Halostar (The Edge) on guitar, and Adam Clayton (Inuott Cuttita) on bass.   Venue owners Robbie and Chiara Bravitz and hostess Kanda Kyong greeted visitors and danced the night away in the midst of the U2 fans and spectacular lights and sound.

Kagar, one of the original founders behind TDDI Tribute Band Productions, traces inspiration back to 2008, and the rest has been an evolution.  The playlist and production team has quickly grown, with U2, Motley Crue, Muse, Queen, Nickelback, GreenDay and so forth, among the now 31 tribute bands.  The wide eclectic range of bands is quite impressive.  TDDI's company site hs concert dates and information related to Kagnar and his team:  http://thedeadlydarkironica.webs.com/

Let's review the music scene!

Oh it was Ground Hog Day, and I had the good fortune of listening to Franck Molko and meeting his manager/wife/partner Scarlett Augusta-Molko.   So new tunes to play, yay!  Learn a bit more about him on Soni's Songs and my BOSL radio show, Saturdays, 1PM SLT.   Listen to the Second Life stream URL in and online!

Caught up with AcousticEnergy, see Soni's Songs.

And caught Blair Bond, new add to BOSL Radio on my show Slow Bake.   He was hanging in the crowd listening at Moonshine Rockin' Blues Club at Montego Beach.

The crowd was enjoying the tunes at Jimmyt49 Dukes in full jam -

Crowd enjoying it all!

and came in late at the tail end of Hazie Moonwall.  I heard the last 20 minutes and was pleased at what I heard -  very talented, and will catch Hazie again soon.  Have a good weekend, and meet you at any one of the live music venues in Second Life.  Check your SL Calendar for all the talent.

The After Glow - Unified Heart

On Saturday, January 21st, I had the pleasure of attending Morgana Nagorski's photography exhibition Unified Heart, a tribute to the words of songwriter/singer Leonard Cohen, now 78.

The gallery brought together numerous artists to pay homage to his timeless lyrics.   [I expound on the significance of his work to the film industry on my machinima blog.]   Morgana brought together 20 artists to share their artistic interpretations of his work, and below are some photos from opening day.   Attendees and artists mingled at the gallery to appreciate the diversity of works presented, while a soundtrack dedicated to Cohen's music played in the background.   It included songs sung by Cohen himself, as well as covers of his work by many esteemed musicians who added their own touches to his music.

Enjoy.  Congrats to Morgana.   I am sure that Leonard Cohen would be pleased that his words have entered the virtual realm.   Be on the look out for a feature article dedicated to her exhibition in the February issue of Best of SL Magazine, coming soon to a kiosk near you.

In closing, let me inform or remind you that Leonard Cohen officially releases his 12th studio album, Old Ideas, on Tuesday, January 31st. It was streamed online at NPR and The Guardian on the 22nd and 23rd. He is 78 years old, and his ideas are very much relevant to today.

:) Soni

Post Note:  Morgana mentioned to me that Leonard Cohen did see some of the work, and she was told by his manager that he found the project interesting and liked what he saw.   Maybe she inspired him to go virtual!   Nonetheless, the lines continue to blur between both realities - first and second.     Later....
